Baking is a course designed for students who want to learn how to prepare and decorate deserts. Students will learn the skills needed for food preparation including how to select, use, and care for cookware, tools and kitchen appliances. Students will also gain experiences working with different doughs and pastries through cooking labs in the classroom.

Essential Learner Outcomes:

1      Demonstrate food safety and sanitation principles.

2      Utilize organization and management skills in a lab setting.

3      Select and demonstrate proper use and care of baking equipment.

4      Prepare yeast breads, quick breads, pastries and cakes using proper methods and techniques.

5      Identify the differences between yeast breads and quick breads.

6      Plan, prepare, and decorate a final cake in a small group.
